Cooperation in delivery chain is key to success

PRESS RELEASE

April 15, 2015: According to transport logistic organizer Messe Munchen, new demands on logistics companies, in terms of technology and as regards customer requirements, are having an effect on the delivery chain. Responding efficiently to these demands is the key.

The challenges include transparency and cooperation in the delivery chain, e-commerce, big data and also sustainability. The supporting program at transport logistic 2015 takes up these trend themes and looks at their effects. This "Leading International Exhibition for Logistics, Mobility, IT and Supply Chain Management" takes place from May 5 to 8, 2015 at the Messe München exhibition center.

Cooperation and transparency in the delivery chain is a hot topic. With globalization, new technology and increasing competition, logistics companies are becoming part of a larger supply chain, operating in networks along with customers, suppliers and cooperation partners. As a result, logistics is continuing to increase in importance - in trade, industry, manufacturing and services. Logisticians from all sectors will be coming to Munich to offer their solutions and provide contact partners to the trade audience, both in the exhibition itself, as well as in the supporting program.

Just what advantages the increasing importance of logistics will bring is the subject of a discussion entitled "What price ignorance? Logistics is the key to a sustainable global economy", taking place on Thursday, May 7. Here representatives from the Kühne Foundation, Panalpina, Maersk Line and Swiss International Airlines will be exploring the question of whether collaboration in the transport chain is the key to sustaining people and profit in an increasingly resource-limited world.

Another event on the theme of cooperation, also on the third day of the show, is a forum entitled "Service providers vs customers - Vertical cooperation instead of top-down instruction!". Taking best practice examples of cooperation between shipping agents and service providers, speakers from B.Braun Melsungen, M&M Militzer & Münch GmbH and BearingPoint GmbH will be pointing out how collaboration rather than a hierarchical system is the way forward, especially against a background of rising wages, demographic change and global competition.

Of course reducing costs also plays a big part in the optimization of delivery chains. In the lectures in the event entitled "Optimization of transport costs - Cost-reduction potential for companies", representatives from Continental Reifen Deutschland GmbH, TRW Parts & Service and BayWa AG will be exploring this theme and illustrating it with examples from day-to-day business. Transport costs offer significant savings potential and collaboration can enhance that potential still further, while also generating greater efficiency in the delivery chain. This panel discussion takes place on Wednesday, May 6.

Another important aspect is the need for greater transparency and a better basis for decision-making and the management of the delivery chain. New digital trends and IT solutions are the answer here. They can help in making faster and more intelligent decisions in the daily management of the delivery chain and in linking the participants both online and offline. The issues here will be discussed in two events, both on Thursday, entitled "Logistics goes digital - What can Big Data, the Cloud, etc. contribute?" and "Unlimited trade: Logistical challenges in omni-channel retailing". Subjects covered include the information chain in the physical transport of goods, the limits of digitalization in logistics and the need for the interconnection of systems and efficient interfaces, as a requirement for omni-channel strategies.
