September 11, 2015: Brussels Airport reports a 10.6 percent increase in cargo throughput for the first eight months of 2015 compared to the same period last year.
Cargo transported on passenger aircraft saw a modest increase of 2.0 percent, but both the integrator traffic as well as the full freighter traffic increased by a strong 7.6 percent and 25.5 percent respectively.
Meanwhile, the Brussels cargo community is consolidating around the Flanders Pharma Hub, its new pharma innovation project. BRUcargo-based handling agents, forwarders, airlines and truckers are working together in this improvement program.
A first goal is to set up 100 percent controlled temperature transport on airside for pharmaceutical shipments. Several pharma shippers have defined the guaranteed temperature ranges for the project and will also test the transport solution planned for the last quarter of this year.
A second goal is the creation of a uniform and robust benchmark pharma booking procedure at Brussels Airport. This will ensure that the instructions from the pharma shipper are correctly transferred and applied by all stakeholders throughout the entire cool chain.
