Air Asia adds Bangkok-Muscat

Air Asia MuscatMUSCAT: June 29, 2016. AirAsia X has begun three-times a week flights between Thailand and Oman with an A330-300 following the launch of a similar frequency from Kuala Lumpur to Tehran earlier in the month.

"Introducing new routes, new airlines and new destinations is part of the strategic vision of the government to capitalize on the paradigm shift taking place in transport sector," said Muscat International Airport acting general manager Sheikh Samer bin Ahmed Al-Nabhani. "The government aims to grow the contribution of non-oil sectors in the GDP of the country. With this in mind, we are delighted to celebrate the inaugural flight of Thai AirAsia X Muscat- Bangkok. The new route will [also] attract investors from Thailand to discover investment opportunities in Oman," he added.

AirAsia X is the long-haul affiliate carrier of the AirAsia Group that serves 22 destinations across Australasia, Asia, the Middle East (Jeddah, Tehran and Muscat) and Africa (Mauritius) with 31 A330-300s.

Nadda Buranasiri, CEO of Thai AirAsia X noted: "Muscat is a long-anticipated destination for our customers and with the great support we have received from our partners in Oman and from Muscat International Airport, we are sure this new route will prove to be popular."

Commenting on the new Tehran service Air Asia X Berhad commercial head Arik De added: "Iran is a huge market to tap into and we will look forward to deepening our footprint in the region."
