HELSINKI: August 30, 2016. Hub Logistics has won a contract to support the opening of Finnair Cargo's 37,000 sq. mt. cool chain hub at Helsinki in May 2017.
Employees of current terminal operator Suomen Transval will transfer to Hub.
In addition to a 50 percent jump in capacity by 2020 following the introduction of the A350 (right), Finnair says it has invested €80 million in building a new cargo terminal at Helsinki, with special cargo handling areas for pharma and life science products as well as fish and seafood.
"Cargo is an integral part of Finnair's growth strategy and we intend to make the most of the warehouse automation and process optimization capabilities of our new terminal," said Finnair Cargo managing director Janne Tarvainen. "This important step is now a great opportunity for us to significantly increase the volumes of cargo at our Helsinki hub. We look forward to developing the new cargo handling model together with Hub Logistics."
Finland's network of procurement and logistics professionals recently nominated the Finnish company best in class. With a turnover of €37 million from 19 offices in Finland, Germany, Estonia and Russia, Hub customers include automobile and machining industries, trade and public administration.
"We are honored to [have been] chosen to support Finnair Cargo's growth strategy," commented Hub Logistics managing director Aki Jumppanen. "During the latest years we have systematically worked to modernize automation, inventory management systems and logistics processes, and it gives us the best possible qualifications and expertise to respond to Finnair Cargo's emerging needs now and in the future."
