VALETTA, Malta: November 25, 2016. Air Malta has appointed Network Airline Services (NAS), as its Total Cargo Management (TCM) service provider.
Commenting on the new general sales agent relationship, John Vella, Air Malta's head of Cargo Sales and Marketing said: "With over 30 years of air cargo management experience, NAS are strategically positioned to assist Air Malta and together roll out our exciting plans and projects which will radically transform in a positive manner the way we conduct our cargo business."
The TCM solution is expected to generate new cargo revenue opportunities while the airline concentrates on its core passenger business.
Apart from a guaranteed income to Air Malta, NAS is expected to generate cost savings across important sales and marketing, pricing and revenue management, cargo reservations, revenue accounting, back-office administration, IT systems, cargo handling and interline contracts.
Air Malta said the TCM approach enables it to "re-group its cargo business" and increase distribution channels while building a important revenue contributor to the airline through freighter hub operations, multimodal transportation, e-commerce and door-to-door products.
"Our vision is to strategically strengthen our position and regain a global cargo footprint and presence through NAS's network. Locally we intend to grow our market share and become again the leading carrier of choice for the carriage of cargo, courier and mail shipments both as an airline and more importantly as the national carrier, " added Vella.
Air Malta has yet to publish its annual report for the 12 months ending March 2016. According to reports, the government and majority shareholder has delayed the airline's annual general meeting while it decides on the company's future direction.
