DUBAI: November 29, 2016. Emirates Airline Group subsidiary dnata is to acquire a 50 percent stake in Canada's GTA Aviation for an undisclosed sum. The company provides cargo and ground handling services at Toronto Pearson International Airport.
This investment marks dnata's first foray into the Canadian market and follows investments in Amsterdam, Milan as well as 26 airports in Brazil and 25 airports in the U.S.
GTA was set up in 2014 by Mario D'Urso and now handles over 58,000 tonnes of airfreight annually for Lufthansa, Austrian Airlines, Brussels Airlines, Cargojet, China Southern Airlines, Emirates, Ethiopian Airlines, Fly Jamaica, Korean Air, SWISS and WestJet.
D'Urso and his brothers Angelo and Domenic D'Urso also own a ground support equipment company that is not part of the dnata investment.
Cargo and ground handling operations for the Mississauga-based organization will be rebranded 'GTA dnata' and the CEO Gary Ogden, together with current management and employees, will remain with the company.
"We are very impressed with the way GTA is managed by Mario, Gary and their team. We look forward to playing our role in helping GTA develop in the next phase of its growth in Canada, and building on the excellent foundations that already exist." said Stewart Angus, dnata's divisional senior vice president of International Airport Operations.
"Having started the company with the concept of service excellence, I am confident that GTA will continue to flourish as part of the dnata team," added D'Urso.
