BREMERHAVEN: January 06, 2017. Three vessels from American Roll-on Roll-off Carrier (ARC) have begun unloading tanks and other mechanized vehicles of the U.S. Army's 3rd Armored Brigade Combat Team based in Fort Carson, Colorado.
The new deployment will set up operations in eight countries across central and eastern Europe as part of the U.S. mission 'Atlantic Resolve' to reassure countries bordering Russia including Estonia, Latvia, Lithuania, Bulgaria and Poland.
According to the U.S. Army, the arrival of the ARC ships from Beaumont, Texas marks the beginning of a continuous armored brigade presence and back-to-back rotations of troops and equipment in Europe over the next nine months.
ARC has the largest fleet of American-flag ro-ro vessels and the three ships provided 400,000 sq. ft. of capacity in support of a subsequent move by rail, commercial line haul and military convoy from Bremerhaven to Poland.
The unloading of the military equipment in Germany coincided with a briefing to Donald Trump in Washington by the U.S. intelligence community on Russia's interference in America's presidential election that included aggressive hacking, propaganda and "fake news". While acknowledging now the possibility of such behavior, Trump denied Russia's actions had any effect on the outcome which saw him win the Electoral College but lose the popular vote by a 2.1 percent margin to Hillary Clinton.
Based in New Jersey, U.S.-flag carrier ARC provides services to the U.S. government and its various agencies; carries agricultural and construction equipment for developing nations; and offers break-bulk and ro-ro services to commercial customers.
