BONN: January 19, 2017. DHL has launched 'Cillox', a BtB virtual marketplace for shippers to find pre-qualified truck capacity, obtain fast quotes, make a booking and payment, and receive real-time tracking updates.
Following a test program that began last September, DHL is now rolling out the platform for shippers and truckers within Germany or from Germany throughout Europe. More modes and geographic coverage will be available in the future said the company.
In addition to matching supply and demand, DHL said its new digital platform and mostly human support team (sample, right) reduces "the complexities of interfacing with many different parties".
According to Cillox shippers are able to track fulfillment progress and receive real-time notifications via their personalized dashboard; transport providers can manage transport jobs with their drivers via a mobile app that matches the GPS position of trucks to the pick-up and delivery addresses of their routes; and a document scanner integrated into the app allows drivers to scan and submit delivery documents with their mobile phone cameras.
"Both companies and carriers benefit from this new business model," said DHL Freight CEO Amadou Diallo. "With Cillox, DHL offers a solution to promote the digitalization of the logistics industry and disrupt the traditional road freight business. The launch of the platform is a result of our strategy 2020 and promotes further growth due to its innovative and agile business model."
DHL says 'Cillox' comes from the Latin verb 'cillere' which apparently means 'to set something in motion'.
