TROIDORF, Germany: February 09, 2017. TX Logistik (TXL), owned by Italian State Railway subsidiary Mercitalia Rail, has launched a new rail link between Leipzig and Verona to carry car and truck components, chemicals and consumer goods.
The three times weekly operation can carry 36 units - ranging from trailers via swap bodies through to bulk and tank containers - and routes via Passau and the Brenner Pass.
The train, which takes about 20 hours to cover the 900 kilometers, is the first non-stop link between the two cities according to Norbert Rekers, TXL's Central Europe Regional Sales director.
He said the company is planning to increase the frequency "as soon as possible" due to growing customer demand and the opportunity to reduce CO2 emissions by over 16,000 tons a year compared to trucking.
TXL currently operates regular connections between Northern Italy and seven German cities, as well as Falköping in Sweden and Padborg in Denmark.
"This means that TX Logistik is among the leading providers of combined rail freight transport for the Brenner axis," added Rekers.
TX Logistik was founded in 1999 and had a turnover of €250 million in 2015.
