Yusen supply chain uses circular economy and carbon offset

HOOFDDORP, The Netherlands: March 07, 2017. Yusen Logistics has won a contract to manage the supply chain of diesel-engine cylinder blocks from manufacturer Neue Halberg-Guss (NHG) in Saarbrücken, Germany to the GM/Izuzu DMAX plant in Moraine, OH.

DMAX exteriorYusen is responsible for collecting the blocks from NHG, stockholding, container buildup, movement by rail to Rotterdam, ocean freight to Cincinnati, Customs clearance, storage and final delivery to DMAX (right) by truck.

The contract also reflects the adoption of circular economics and CO2 reduction with the reuse of plastic pallets returned to Germany, and only 50 kilometers of the total supply chain relying on trucking.

Managing director Mario Cavallucci commented: "We are absolutely delighted to have been awarded this contract by NHG. Yusen Logistics has a strong understanding of the complex and individual requirements of the automotive industry."

Owned by Netherlands-based private equity group HTP Investments, NHG and its 3,000 employees in Saarbrücken, Leipzig and Cape Town develop and produce cast iron cylinder crank housings and heads for cars and trucks, with a product range from custom three-cylinder blocks to large-volume V8 units.

DMAX is a 60:40 joint venture between GM and Isuzu Diesel Services of America that produces the Duramax 6.6-liter V-8 for GM's Chevrolet Silverado and GMC Sierra heavy-duty pickups, full-size vans, Chevrolet Express and GMC Savana vehicles. Nearly 1.69 million engines have been produced since the diesel engine launch in 2000.
