PRESS RELEASE

September 17, 2015: Luxembourg Airport handled a record near-300,000 passengers August. The airport provides direct flight service to 66 destinations and employs 229 people. It handled 708,078 tonnes of freight in 2014, up by 5.1 percent, making it the 5th  largest freight platform in Europe (exclusive of express freight).

Traffic was up 11.3 percent in July and more than 9.0 percent in August compared to the same month last year. The cumulative increase in the number of passengers since the beginning of the year exceeds 7.0 percent.

With an increase in traffic of nearly 9.0, the Luxair Group has been the main contributor in terms of volume. Most other airlines have improved their performance - often with spectacular results: +24 percent for Turkish Airlines; + 19.0 percent for TAP Portugal; + 16 percent for British Airways; and + 14.0 percent for EasyJet.

For the coming winter season Lufthansa will replace Luxair to Frankfurt with a 50 percent increase in capacity. The German airline will also add two daily flights to its current twice daily service to Munich while Luxair will add a 4th daily flight on the route to increase the total daily frequency to eight. Meanwhile easyJet will operate between four and five weekly flights to Porto - up from three during the summer; flights to Copenhagen currently operated by Luxair and SAS will be run entirely by Luxair;  and Chalair will begin a Monday-Friday service to Lyon on September 28.
