HONG KONG: January 04, 2016. Kerry Logistics Network has opened its first IT Development Center in Penang, Malaysia in support of its rapidly growing international operations.

Penang’s economy is one of the fastest growing in the country having attracted investments from multinational corporations in the past decade and established a reputation as the ‘Silicon Valley’ of Asia.

Kerry Logistics IT CenterThe new center's opening ceremony was officiated by The Rt. Hon. Lim Guan Eng, (5th from right in picture) chief minister of Penang, the Hon. Dato’ Ng Wan Peng (5th from left), COO of Multimedia Development Corporation (‘MDeC’), and George Yo, chairman of Kerry Logistics (4th from the right).

As part of its overall IT development strategy, Kerry Logistics will use its new Penang center as an offshore shared support center in a bid to increase operational efficiency at lower costs.  MDeC’s mission is to spearhead Malaysia’s digital economy by enhancing the country’s status as a global hub and a preferred location for ICT industries in the Asian region.

George Yeo, chairman of Kerry Logistics commented: “The Penang government has played an important role in promoting the IT development of this city, making it one of the preferred Asia technology bases of many international IT giants. Establishing our IT development center in this dynamic city will provide us readily available local IT resources, a strong pool of multilingual talents, and good infrastructure support.”

Lim Guan Eng added: “It is with great honour that we add Kerry Logistics to the growing list of leading edge, innovative companies in Penang. Kerry Logistics’ global presence and experience in the logistics arena will help strengthen Penang’s position as a regional logistics and IT hub. Kerry Logistics follows a long list of Forbes 500 companies that have sited their principal facilities here.”

Kerry Logistics says it wants to lead the next wave of ‘Internet Plus’ solutions by combining IT, Big Data technology with its strong business and operational knowledge to help clients boost supply chain efficiency and timeliness to market.
