ISTANBUL: December 07, 2017: Turkish Airlines has taken delivery of the first of two B777 freighters due to arrive in 2017 at a ceremony in Istanbul this week.

Turksh Carg 1The new aircraft follows the release of Turkish Cargo Q3 results in November that saw volumes rise 29 percent to reach 294,000 tons flown, revenue increased nearly 40 percent from US$246 million to US$343 million year-on-year, while the nine-month cumulative saw an growth of 29.6 percent to reach US$923 million.

"The delivery of our first B777 freighter is a milestone event in our cargo business," said M. İlker Aycı, chairman of the Board and the Executive Committee of Turkish Airlines. "As a prominent sub-brand of Turkish Airlines, Turkish Cargo increased its freighter destinations served from 55 to 73 from the beginning of this year, reaching to approximately one million tons of cargo with a 29 percent increase compared to the previous year period."

Compared to the same nine-month period last year, airline revenue from all-cargo operations rose 52.5 percent from US$266 to US$405 million.

"We're sure that this significant delivery which will bring great value to our rapidly growing cargo operations will also enable our leading sub-brand to further compete, expand and reach new short and long-range destinations from our hub in Istanbul," added Ayci.

With direct flights to 300 destinations in 120 countries, Turkish Airlines extended its network by implemented a codeshare with Brazilian airline Azul this week for travel from Europe and Asia via Sao Paulo to 14 domestic cities in Brasil.
