KAMPTEN, Berlin: December 14, 2017. Dachser and DHL are the launch customers of Daimler's all-electric FUSO eCanter commercial vehicle. Both companies will be operating the trucks in Berlin while Dachser will also deploy a vehicle in Stuttgart.

DachserDepending on usage, the all-electric light truck is powered by six 13.8 kWh lithium-ion batteries, has a range of 100 kilometers and a load capacity of up to 3.5 tonnes.

DHL said today's official vehicle handover marks the beginning of a 24-month test phase of the electric vehicles in Berlin where they will be used to deliver less-than-container-load shipments weighing over 35 kg, such as electric or large home appliances, to private customers.

In addition to two vehicles for DHL Freight, DHL Parcel will be using four trucks in the central downtown area of Berlin in order to gain more information about the use of e-trucks for company deliveries.

Stefan Hohm, Dachser director Corporate Solutions, Research & Development said his company will use the vehicles as part of a city distribution project that combines the application of tested logistics models with new ideas for last-mile deliveries..

"We went for the FUSO eCanter because it's the first all-electric truck to enter full-scale production, and so it will add momentum to this entire class of commercial vehicle," explained Hohm.

In Berlin and Stuttgart the vehicles will be used to deliver pallets of manufactured goods, either to microhubs or directly to customers. They will also collect shipments for Dachser's branches in Schönefeld and Kornwestheim. "These electric trucks are ideal for city centers and that's where they will most often be found," added Hohm.

Family-owned Dachser produced total revenue of €5.71 billion last year from operations in 43 countries.
