Emirates SkyCargo bagged three honours at the Freightweek Sustainability Awards (FSA), walking away with the overall Sustainable Cargo Airline of the Year gong, with this year’s winners landing a combined 256,000 verified votes from across 170 countries.
Together with its headline honour, the 2026 awards also saw Emirates SkyCargo winning the regional titles for Sustainable Cargo Airline of the Year in Asia and the Middle East.
Director of the FSAs and managing director of Freightweek, Richard Broom, said that it says a lot for the winners that they are decided by those from within the industry, with the awards’ voting system giving those working in and using the global logistics sector a direct say in recognising sustainability achievements.
“Since 2022 the event has successfully grown at a huge pace. The 2026 verified votes achieved a record 256,000 plus votes across 170 countries. This is quite simply amazing,” Broom told Freightweek. “I’m extremely proud that it is the Industry that decides the winners. It is only right and proper that the actual people involved in the industry and using the global logistics industry ultimately decide who wins through their voting.”
Emphasising Freightweek’s longstanding commitment to sustainability, Broom said the publication had championed the issue well before it became a mainstream industry priority, describing the issue as “in the DNA of Freightweek”.
He added: “Long before Sustainability became popular or trendy Freightweek was extolling its merits and importance and we are helping to drive it forward to even greater heights and success within the global logistics industry.”
Among the other winners, Ethiopian Cargo was named Sustainable Cargo Airline of the Year for Africa, while Air Canada Cargo took the Americas title and Turkish Cargo won in Europe.
Milan Malpensa Airport was recognised as Sustainable Cargo Airport of the Year, with DHL Global Forwarding walking away as Sustainable Forwarder of the Year.
Strike Aviation retained the Sustainable GSSA of the Year title, while Unilode Aviation Solutions was named Sustainable ULD Provider of the Year. Other winners included Jebel Ali Port for Sustainable Global Port of the Year, Kuehne + Nagel for Sustainable 3PL Logistics Company of the Year and CMA CGM for Sustainable Shipping Company of the Year.
Looking ahead, Broom said he could see positive signs for sustainability across global logistics but warned against complacency, stressing that continued effort is needed to maintain progress.
“We must be aware that we cannot take sustainability for granted. We must constantly push the sustainability agenda in order to help make a difference,” he added, paying tribute to all the companies shortlisted for the awards, arguing that recognition extends far beyond those ultimately named as winners.
“Finally, let me state that Freightweek views every nominated company as a winner because no company is nominated or in the Finalists list without making a sustainability difference. A big thank you to all our finalists for their incredible efforts.”
