TOULOUSE: April 16, 2018. HyperloopTT has taken delivery of full-scale passenger and freight transport tubes at its R&D facility in Toulouse, France where it is building a 320-meter track that will be operational later this year.

The company says a full-scale system including one kilometer of test track, built at a height of 5.8 meters, will be completed in 2019.

HyperloopTT Tube2With an interior diameter of 4.0 meters, HyperloopTT says its system is large enough to accept both passenger capsules and shipping containers. Spanish specialist composite manufacturer Carbures is currently building the first passenger capsule due for delivery to Toulouse this summer.

“Building in full-scale means we’re committed to innovation in the long-term,” said Bibop Gresta, HyperloopTT chairman. “We’ve pioneered the technology, proved feasible and insurable by the world’s largest reinsurance company, Munich RE. We have agreements in place in nine countries where we’re working on feasibility and regulations. We have a research center for freight and logistics in Brazil and a facility in Toulouse where we’ll deliver the first full-scale passenger capsule. Hyperloop is no longer a concept, it has become a commercial industry.”

Earlier this month competitor Virgin Hyperloop One (VHO) unveiled its ‘Vision 2030’ pod on behalf of HRH Mohammed bin Salman bin Abdulaziz, Saudi Arabia Crown Prince and minister of Defense, during his visit to the Virgin Galactic test site in the Mojave desert.

The company discussed with the Crown Prince how a hyperloop-enabled transportation sector would stimulate economic growth and diversification of Saudi industries, nurture manufacturing and innovation sectors, and spur job growth in support of the country’s Vision 2030.

Using hyperloop technology, VHO says travel time from Riyadh to Jeddah would be reduced to 76 minutes from over 10 hours, and from Riyadh to Abu Dhabi to just 48 minutes rather than 8.5 hours.

“We’re look forward to advancing the relationship between KSA and VHO while we develop innovative transport technologies like hyperloop, accelerating Vision 2030 objectives to transform the Kingdom of Saudi Arabia from a technology consumer to a technology innovator,” said HRH.
