Port of Koper Greek President As part of her two-day visit to Slovenia, Greek President Katerina Sakellaropoulou, accompanied by Slovenian President Borut Pahor, visited the Port of Koper on April 23 2021.

Koper's ties with Greece are mainly due to their good and long-standing relations with Greek shipowners. Among these is Neptune Lines, which provides vehicle transport (ro-ro) and with which they have cooperated for more than 25 years. In February this year, this Greek shipowner named its new ship after their port.

While the volume of maritime throughput between Koper and Greek ports is not significant, the strategic link, especially between Koper and Piraeus, is important. Piraeus is a relevant hub in the Mediterranean for goods from the Far East and the Black Sea, while Koper is an excellent point of entry to the markets of Central and Eastern Europe. The Port of Koper is linked to the Piraeus Container Terminal ‒ the fourth largest in Europe ‒ by weekly services provided by the largest container shipping lines.

Other commodity groups include cars and liquid and bulk cargoes such as alumina and perlite, which are raw materials for the metallurgical and construction industries.
