Port Envoy John D. Porcari and Port of Los Angeles Executive Director Gene Seroka held a virtual media briefing Thursday to discuss the latest developments in the supply chain challenges being faced nationwide.
Porcari and Seroka addressed the 24/7 operations announcement by President Biden on Wednesday.
Porcari was appointed in August 2021 as Port Envoy to the Biden-Harris Administration Supply Chain Disruptions Task Force. A former Deputy Secretary of the U.S. Department of Transportation, Porcari is working closely with U.S. Secretary of Transportation Pete Buttigieg and other supply chain stakeholders to improve throughput at the nation’s ports amid a record cargo surge.
Final September cargo volume for the Port of Los Angeles will be released next week and made available on the Port’s website.
North America’s leading seaport by container volume and cargo value, the Port of Los Angeles facilitated $259 billion in trade during 2020. San Pedro Bay port complex operations and commerce facilitate one in nine jobs across the counties of Los Angeles, Orange, Riverside, San Bernardino and Ventura. The Port of Los Angeles has remained open with all terminals operational throughout the COVID-19 pandemic.
