Port of Los AngelesIt’s the most wonderful time of the year, and not a moment too soon to don your favorite holiday sweater and head down to “Holidays by the Sea”—a festive wintertime family event returning to a new location on the LA Waterfront this Saturday December 4, from 4pm to 8pm.

Make a night of it by going to dinner in downtown San Pedro after the event!

"The LA Waterfront is on its way to becoming a world-class entertainment center and the inaugural Holidays by the Sea celebration will give Angelenos and beyond a sneak preview of the types of events we can expect to see in the near future," said Councilmember Buscaino. "We are transitioning from imagining the possibilities for the LA Waterfront and West Harbor to actually experiencing them so I encourage everyone to join us for the first event of the new entertainment capital of the South Bay!"

“The Port of Los Angeles has delivered another key section of the LA Waterfront -- this time, the main pedestrian linkage between historic downtown San Pedro and the water’s edge,” said Port of Los Angeles Executive Director Gene Seroka. “This event will be a wonderful opportunity to have a front row seat for the Holiday Afloat boat parade, and ring in the holidays on San Pedro’s downtown waterfront with family and friends.”

Councilmember Buscaino will join U.S. Congresswoman Nanette Barragan and Los Angeles County Supervisor Janice Hahn, along with Los Angeles Harbor Commissioners Diane Middleton and Anthony Pirozzi, for the inaugural tree lighting ceremony at 5:00 p.m. The tree lighting will take place at the newly completed Town Square & Promenade at 6th Street and Harbor in San Pedro.

This year’s Harbor Afloat Parade will be at the center of festivities, and visitors are encouraged to bring beach chairs and blankets in order to watch the passing boats from several LA Waterfront vantage points.

Still in a construction zone, the new Promenade section south of 6th Street will be opened for one night only to accommodate parade viewers. The Downtown Harbor north of the Los Angeles Maritime Museum will also be another ideal parade-viewing location. However, Banning’s Landing in Wilmington will not be available for public access this year due to Wilmington Waterfront construction.

Visitors won’t want to miss the sail light-up display on the historic Tall Ship Exy Johnson docked adjacent to the Town Square, a brilliantly colorful sight set against the night harbor sky and the giant cargo ships of the Port.

Also on tap for the evening will be a host of activities for the entire family: The “Elf Pet Parade” - Get in the spirit and parade your best-dressed “elf” (aka pet) starting at the Town Square stage at 7:00 p.m; Live seasonal music and entertainment; Street carolers singing some holiday favorites; Free holiday arts & crafts for the kids, brought to you by CRAFTED at the Port of Los Angeles; Cornhole & “Spin the Wheel,” complements of the West Harbor commercial destination under construction and slated to open in 2023; Sneak peak of Los Harbor Department’s “Timmy the Duck” landside float that will be featured next month in the Wilmington and San Pedro street parades; Holiday Toy Drive – Bring an unwrapped toy to donate to local children in need, organized by the Port of Los Angeles; Free hop-on and offs on the San Pedro rubber-tire trolley, provided by the San Pedro Historic Waterfront District will shuttle people into the event from downtown and the north end parking area of the former Ports O’ Call area.

Limited parking for ADA and the elderly is available at 6th Street and Harbor Boulevard, adjacent to the event site. General parking is available at the Topaz Building in downtown San Pedro and a free rubber- tired trolley shuttle is provided by the San Pedro Property & Business Improvement District. Additional parking, serviced by the rubber-tired trolley, is available at the north end of the former Ports O’ Call parking lot.
