ABU DHABI: February 28, 2016. Etihad Cargo has taken delivery of another B777 freighter - the first of two that will enter service in March - adding to a mixed feet of B747/B777/A330 aircraft serving 14 freighter destinations including Hahn, San Juan, Bogota, Guangzhou, Dakar, Douala, Eldoret, Hanoi, Houston, Nouakchott, Sharjah and Tbilisi.

Both new aircraft will include nine seats for grooms as part of its Sky StablesEtihad Cargo new 777 freighter program that manages the delivery of horses to destinations in Europe, Asia, Africa, Australia and the Americas. 

Kevin Knight, Etihad Airways chief Strategy and Planning officer said: “Over the last year we have been expanding into South America, Africa and Asia and the new aircraft will enhance capacity and enable us to increase frequency across our scheduled network, but importantly also increase our charter opportunities to growth areas of the world.”

Etihad Cargo reported an increase of 4.0 percent in 2015 flown cargo to over 590,00 tonnes of freight and mail. The cargo division also accounted for 88 percent of cargo imports, exports and transfers at Abu Dhabi International Airport.

LONDON: February 26, 2016. Global Infrastructure Partners (GIP), owners of London Gatwick airport, has agreed to sell its 75 percent share of London City Airport to AIMCo, OMERS, Ontario Teachers’ Pension Plan and Wren House Infrastructure Management, part of the Kuwait Investment Authority.

Highstar Capital has also agreed to sell its 25 percent interest in the airport as part of the transaction. The deal is not subject to regulatory approvals and is expected to close on March 10, 2016.

Terms of the sale were not disclosed but the airport was reportedly valued at £2 billion last year.

London City was acquired by GIP for around £750 million between 2006 and 2008. Since then the airport has grown from handling 2.4 million in 2006 to 4.3 million passengers  in 2015 and provides links to 46 destinations in the UK, Europe and USA.

GIP operates assets in power and utilities, natural resources infrastructure, air transport infrastructure, seaports, freight railroad, water distribution and treatment and waste management.
