SHARJAH, UAE: March 20, 2018. RUS Aviation has reintroduced twice-weekly cargo services to Sulaymaniyah Airport (below) in Kurdistan northern Iraq.

SulaymaniyahThe move follows the lifting of an Iraqi government ban on international flights to Erbil and Sulaymaniyah earlier this month.

The Rus flight, with an A300 freighter, was the first commercial air cargo service to Sulaymaniyah after the reopening of the airport.

The company, which also operates the Il-76TD and B747 aircraft, said it would operate every Tuesday and Saturday from Sharjah.

Other regular destinations served by Rus from the UAE include Kyrgyzstan, Djibouti, Erbil, Bagram and Kabul.

Underwritten by the Iraq Ministry of Transport, an Airports Aviation Forum will be held within Baghdad International Airport on April 11-12.

The government has earmarked US$20 billion on airport development in the next few years with capacity expansion at Baghdad, Basra, Erbil, Najaf and Sulaymaniah and new airport construction in Karbala, Kirkuk, Diwania and Dohuk.

Commercial sponsors of the conference and exhibition include DHL and Bombardier.
