LIEGE: May 31, 2018. Alibaba logistics subsidiary Cainiao Network has chosen Liege as its European hub in a global infrastructure that also includes Moscow, Hangzhou, Dubai and Kuala Lumpur.

Air China Cargo Liege AirportThe hubs will support a Cainiao goal of delivering door-to-door in five days in the next three years and the partnership with Liege is intended to encourage local SMEs to use e-commerce to promote their exports.

“We particularly wish to thank all our partners, who have enabled us to receive one of the largest logistics firms in the world,” commented Liege Airport CEO Luc Partoune. “Cainiao has chosen our airport for its flexibility, the quality of its services, its advantages consisting of its ideal localisation in Europe, the fact that it is open 24/7 and its connectivity with the other continents.”

Alibaba executive chairman Jack Ma said his company plans to invest “billions of dollars to build the technical backbone for a smart logistics network aimed at improving delivery reach and efficiency, as well as driving down costs.”

Partoune said Liege Airport is destined to become “the cargo airport of the future” as a result of the Cainiao decision.
