ABU DHABI/PARIS: May 24, 2018. Project engineering company Egis has won a consulting contract with operator Etihad Rail for the development of Stage 2 and 3 of the UAE railway network.

etihad home 0The existing network of 264 kilometres will be expanded between now and 2024 by over 600 kilometres in Stage 2 and 250 kilometres in Stage 3 as part of the Gulf Cooperation Council (GCC) rail network, according to Egis.

The company will work with Etihad to oversee and supervise the engineering consultant responsible for preliminary design and construction, plus future design-and-build contractors.

When complete in 2024, the network will link Saudi Arabia to the UAE and Oman with a combination of freight and passenger lines and nearly 40 logistics sites for freight, passenger stations, yards and maintenance depots.

This is Egis’s third major guided transportation project in the Gulf region in addition to the Qatar automatic metro and an autonomous transportation system in Dubai.

Egis specializes in transport, cities, buildings, industry, water, environment and energy consulting. Employing 13,600 people, including 8,200 engineers, the group generated managed turnover of €1.05 billion in 2017. The company is 75 percent owned by the ‘Caisse des Dépôts, a French public sector financial institution controlled by the country's Parliament.
