Austrian RailMINSK, Belarus: April 28, 2019. BeITA, the national news agency, says Belarusian Railways and Rail Cargo Austria have signed an MoU to develop services between China and Europe.

The MoU was signed on April 25 at conference in Frankfurt organized by Belarusian Railways and the country’s German embassy. Attendees included logistics executives of rail companies, ports and terminals from countries involved in rail services between China and Europe including Germany, Russia, Latvia, Poland, China, Kazakhstan, Czechia, and The Netherlands.

Belarusian Railways says it wants to expand railway and multimodal container transportation options in the context of China’s Belt and Road initiative.

Conference participants, including first deputy head of Belarusian Railways Igor Shilov who said his company was ready to facilitate intermodal exchange between 1.520 metre and 1.4 metre railway gauges, discussed ways to develop effective partnerships with other railway companies, forwarders and logistics operators on routes between China and Europe.
