Milano Malpensa CArgo On the occasion of the global logistics and transportation event, where the air cargo sector is a key pillar, SEA Aeroporti di Milano presented itself for the first time as a community alongside all the players in the airport cargo supply chain, launching a project for concrete collaboration: “Milano Malpensa Cargo Community.”

At the Milan Malpensa Cargo booth, Armando Brunini, CEO of SEA Aeroporti di Milano; Raffaele Cattaneo, Undersecretary to the Presidency with responsibility for International and European Relations of the Lombardy Region; Giacomo Leopoldo Bampini, Italian Vice Consul in Munich; Alessandro Marino, General Manager of the Italian-German Chamber of Commerce; Pierandrea Galli, EVP Commercial Planning at Cargolux; Alessandro Albertini, President of Anama; and Paolo Dallanoce, Head of Cargo Management at SEA, met to discuss the Community, which brings together handlers, freight forwarders, airlines, express couriers, road haulage companies, and logistics and technology partners, all working with SEA Milan Airports to structure and enhance an ecosystem, transforming it into a collaborative and integrated platform capable of collectively facing the challenges of the global market.

The confirmation that Milan Malpensa Cargo is on a winning path was evidenced by the recognition received from the airport sector: the “Air Cargo Week – World Air Cargo Awards 2025” in the category “Airport of the Year 2025 – Regional Cargo Hub,” where it won first prize in a shortlist that included Bangalore, Munich, Brussels, and Budapest airports.

“The Air Cargo Week 2025 award is an important recognition for us, confirming SEA’s commitment and that of the entire Malpensa ecosystem toward operational excellence, innovation, and collaboration,” says Francesco Raschi, Director of Cargo & Real Estate at SEA Aeroporti di Milano. “This award comes at a particularly significant time, as we have officially launched the ‘Milano Malpensa Cargo Community,’ a shared vision for the future of air cargo. It is concrete proof that system collaboration, valuing expertise, and investing in technology yield tangible results. Malpensa reaffirms itself not only as Italy's leading Cargo airport but also as an increasingly strategic reference in the European cargo landscape.”

With a 60% share of the national market and a solid position among the top ten European airports for traffic and all-cargo movements, Milan Malpensa is the main Italian cargo airport. In 2024, it handled over 782,000 tons of goods and 25,000 all-cargo movements.

This initiative represents a collective commitment toward a more efficient, sustainable, and competitive future. It is a shared path by all stakeholders contributing to growth, positioning Italy as a leading player in the global air cargo flow.

Among the operational tools that give substance to the Community vision: The “Goods Services Charter,” unique in the Italian landscape, certifies operator performance through a shared monitoring system approved by ENAC.

The Smart City ecosystem, which enables the digitalization of processes and real-time information sharing between carriers, handlers, freight forwarders, and customs.

The Community is born with a clear and shared vision, based on five pillars: Operational Efficiency: Improving performance through integrated and quality management across the entire logistics chain; Global Connectivity: Enhancing international connections thanks to Malpensa's strategic position in the country's industrial heart; Innovation and Digitalization: Accelerating the adoption of advanced technologies, through projects like the Smart City digital ecosystem, which integrates all stakeholders involved in the cargo cycle in real time; Environmental Sustainability: Promoting a growth model compatible with climate goals, aiming for carbon neutrality; Inclusive Development: Strengthening shared responsibility toward the territory, the Italian industrial system, and international clients.

The Cargo Community represents a decisive step in consolidating and improving this leadership, making the Malpensa cargo system increasingly competitive, resilient, and ready to seize new opportunities at the international level.
