ATLANTA: September 14, 2016. UPS says it plans to hire 95,000 extra staff to cope with an anticipated heavy increase in volume between November this year and January 2017.

The company says its hiring of full and part-time seasonal package handlers, drivers and driver-helpers has been a traditional entry point for permanent employment at UPS.

UPS UNICEF Between 2012 and 2014, over 37 percent of the people UPS hired for seasonal package handler jobs were later given permanent employment. Current CEO David Abney and three other members of the company's management committee started their UPS careers as part-time employees.

"For many it's an opportunity to earn some extra cash for the holidays," said Abney, who started loading trucks at night in 1974 while in college. "But with many of our holiday hires getting permanent jobs with us, it can also be a gateway to a career."

Permanent and part-time UPS jobs include healthcare and retirement benefits and at many company locations part-time employees in college are eligible to receive up to US$25,000 in tuition assistance through the company's 'Earn and Learn' program.

"We're ready to kick off our annual holiday hiring process, and need lots of great people for various positions on all shifts across the country," added U.S. operations president Myron Gray. "UPS delivers the holidays, and we also deliver some of the best temporary jobs in the country for tens of thousands of Americans."

On September 08, UPS was named to the Dow Jones Sustainability World Index (DJSI World) for the fourth consecutive year and the Dow Jones Sustainability North America Index for the 12th straight year.

Companies are selected for the DJSI based on an in-depth analysis of various economic, environmental and social factors with an emphasis on long-term shareholder value.

Created in 1999, it was the first global index to provide complex benchmarks for measuring corporate sustainability.
