Meanwhile DB Schenker BTT - part of European rail freight operator DB Schenker Rail - has launched a new railway link for containers and swap bodies between Kombi Terminal, Burghausen (KTB) and the port of Rotterdam via the port of Köln-Niehl Container-Terminal.

The new service provides freight forwarders, shipping lines and logisticians a rail link between the Bavarian chemical triangle, the Rhine-Ruhr region and the port of Rotterdam.

"With our new connection to international maritime traffic, our KombiTerminal in Burghausen will be even more attractive for regional industry", says Carsten Hinne, CEO Schenker BTT. "Especially the connection with the port of Rotterdam will open up a further possibility for our customers to be connected to global import and export quickly, reliably and efficiently."

Wouter van Dijk, director Logistics Port Authority Rotterdam added: "The new train connection that we are setting up together with our partners fits in perfectly with our concept of international expansion of intermodal rail connections, thus always providing a better connection between the regions and our international port."
