ILG GroupLUKA KOPER: April 26, 2016. Slovenia’s main port of Luka Koper reported net revenue of €47.9 million for the first three months of 2016 – a 13 percent increase over the same period last year.

Total throughput was 5.56 million tonnes – up 11 percent year-on-year with TEU traffic rising 8.0 percent to 2.04 million.

In April, intermodal rail operator Adria Kombi began a twice-weekly container shuttle between Koper and Salzburg. The port, which is only 20 kilometers from the Italian port of Trieste, remains Austria’s top gateway for international trade.

Also this month the ILG Group, headquartered in the Czech Republic and a member of the Security Cargo Network that just finished its annual meeting in Barcelona, has opened an office in Koper. The company said the move is prompted by an increase in FCL and LCL traffic on what is the shortest sea route with the fastest transit times between Central and Eastern Europe, the Gulf and Africa via Egypt.

CMA CGM, UASC and CSCL also include Koper on weekly rotations linking southern Europe with points in Asia.

Koper’s free trade zone and catchment area ranges from Slovenia to Austria, Croatia, Hungary, Italy, the Czech Republic, Slovakia, Poland and the southern part of Germany as well to Bosnia & Herzegovina, Serbia, Montenegro, Kosovo and Macedonia.
