M 2016 1MARSEILLE: April 27, 2016. CMA CGM Group is a main sponsor of Chinese artist Huang Yong Ping and his exhibition Monumenta 2016 at the Réunion des Musées Nationaux (RMN) – Grand Palais, Paris from May 08-June 16, 2016.

Featuring globalization, the artist often uses metaphors inspired by the sea and his latest exhibition integrates elements of the shipping industry says the company.

Beginning in January this year, CMA CGM was involved in every stage of the project - from genesis to the realization of the artwork – by providing transport, TEUs, industrial resources and logistics project management.

On March 28 a key milestone was reached where several containers were off loaded in Le Havre from the CMA CGM Bougainville arriving from the ports of Qingdao and Shanghai.

Various elements of the artwork arrived separately at Le Havre and were transferred by inland barge to Gennevilliers in northwest Paris before delivery to the nave of the Grand Palais for final assembly.

RMN president Sylvie Hubac commented: “Ping’s performance is impressive and the work, created in situ, integrates unstintingly [with] the voluminous space of the Grand Palais. Around several masterpieces, symbolizing globalization, the artist offers a metaphorical fresco of the forces at work within the world and of humanity. The project would not have been the same without the support of CMA CGM as main partner of Monumenta 2016,” she added.

UPDATE: April 29, 2016. CMA CGM says it has received approval from the European Commission for its pending acquisition of Neptune Orient Lines (NOL), Southeast Asia’s largest container shipping company. The proposed transaction was notified to the EC on March 8, 2016 and was cleared today following a Phase 1 review that stipulates NOL leaves the G6 shipping alliance.
