BMW SCGREER, S.C., July 19, 2016. BMW is to support a new twice-weekly freighter service between Greenville-Spartanburg airport, South Carolina and Munich, Germany beginning November 05, 2016. Hamburg-based Senator International is responsible for the operation.

BMW opened a manufacturing plant in 1994 (right) adjacent to the airport and Interstate 85. In May the company produced its 3.5 millionth BMW made in South Carolina. The vehicle was sent by rail to the port of Charleston for shipment to a customer in Fuyang, China - about seven hours drive west of Shanghai.

The plant is the sole global producer of BMW's X3, X4, X5 and X6 Sports Activity Vehicles that are exported to more than 140 countries.

According to a BMW spokesman the manufacturing facility expects to use the new Senator service for both imports and exports between Germany, South Carolina and the surrounding region that includes North Carolina, Kentucky, Tennessee and Georgia.

"Products like this, which allow the overall supply chain process to run smoothly, are the keys to success for our customers. We are looking forward to many customers benefiting from this special new product, which will also service any air cargo to and from Germany, Austria, Switzerland, Czech Republic, Hungary and Poland," said Senator CEO Tim Kirschbaum.
