ISTANBUL: July 25, 2016. Turkish 3PL Ekol Logistics is buying 150 new Mercedes-Benz Actros trucks for €12 million to expand its Romania-based logistics operation.

Ekol ROROEkol also owns five RORO vessels and operates 40 block trains per week via its 12 European-based subsidiaries.

"The Mercedes-Benz Actros trucks are fuel-efficient and reliable. They are our No. 1 choice in terms of eco-friendliness and performance," said Ekol chairman Ahmet Musul. "Cost benefits are characteristic core values of the green logistics that Ekol has championed for many years now," he added.

Ekol Romania will expand its truck fleet to 227 with the new units in support of transport operations in Romania as well as door-to-door services in Germany, France, the Benelux and other parts of Eastern Europe.

"Ekol has a wide intermodal infrastructure across Europe, especially with railway connections, so the necessity of ensuring the 'final mile' using our trucks is one of our key factors of success," explained Alecsandru Mucenic, Ekol Romania general manager.

Ekol's Romanian subsidiary was set up in 2011 when Ekol acquired Greek logistics company Omega Ro as part of its plans to develop a EU-centric logistics operation based in a fast-growing economy with a strategic geographical location. The company now provides 3PL services for the automotive, industry, textile, health and FMCG sectors.

Funded in 1990, the Ekol group operates distribution centers in Turkey, Germany, Italy, Greece, France, Ukraine, Bosnia-Herzegovina, Romania, Hungary, Spain, Poland, the Czech Republic and Bulgaria.
