QR777FDOHA: August 23, 2016. Qatar Airways Cargo has opened a Freight Load Control Centre at its hub to optimize pallet loading for its 20-unit freighter fleet that now includes 10 B777F.

Supported by system management data, the cargo carrier says it is able to optimise payloads and minimize the lateral imbalance of each aircraft, resulting in a "significant" reduction of fuel consumption.

The airline explains that automating the weight and balance system reduces time for load planning and weight check processes, and contributes to a better utilisation of cargo volume and weight capacity on the aircraft.

"Automation and technology is seen as a highly strategic enabler for any business," said Qatar Airways Cargo head Ulrich Ogiermann. "In addition to the numerous benefits this brings to customers and the business, the reduction in fuel consumption will also further reduce carbon emissions as part of our commitment to environmental management," he noted.

In April Qatar Cargo launched its first mobile app linked to provide customers with links to cargo reservations, operations, and accounting management systems for real-time data updates.
