AmeriCaresTASHKENT, Uzbekistan: August 31, 2016. Uzbekistan Airways has taken delivery of its first B787 that included a shipment of humanitarian aid from AmeriCares. Since 1997, the Stamford, CT-based organization has shipped aid worth US$220 million to Uzbekistan.

With an economy still heavily dependent on growing cotton, the country provides very limited access to healthcare for its population of 29 million. The delivery flight carried aid to patients in hospitals, mother-child clinics, rehabilitation centers and orphanages.

Working with local NGO Soglom Avlod Uchun Foundation, AmeriCares supports a broad range of healthcare institutions throughout the country. Each month, the organization ships aid to Tashkent under a program supported by Uzbekistan Airlines and the Uzbekistan Mission to the U.N.

In 2013, it distributed over US$25 million in medicines to some of the country's most isolated communities.

Uzbekistan operates 34 aircraft, including nine B767 and six B757 airplanes. One B767 converted freighter operates from Navoi, Uzbekistan to Tehran on behalf of Korean Air Lines.
