DOHA: May 10. 2017. Qatar Airways Cargo is to begin a weekly A330 freighter service to London Heathrow on June 03 this year, in addition to its London Stansted operation.

The airline said the service is part of a major expansion in its cargo business that includes four more B777 freighters for delivery by March 2019; a new airside transit facility for temperature-sensitive cargo; and the opening of a transit facility for courier and mail products.

The mail and courier facility has a build-up size of 6,700 square meters with screening, handling and storage areas and a capacity to handle 256,000 tonnes annually.

Speaking at transport logistic in Munich, the airline's chief officer Cargo Ulrich Ogiermann commented: "Europe is a major market for Qatar Airways Cargo, and we have expanded our operations immensely by increasing our freighter flights to the prime European cities such as Luxembourg, Liege and Brussels in recent months."

The cargo carrier reported a 21 percent increase in 2016 tonnage year-on-year and currently operates freighters to 14 European destinations and bellyhold capacity to 38.

Ogiermann said that in addition to new freighter services to Buenos Aires, Sao Paulo, Quito, Miami and Phnom Penh, more passenger destinations this year will contribute a further 200 tonnes of weekly capacity to the cargo network.
