AZTECA serviceMARSEILLE: May 23, 2017. CMA CGM has launched a weekly 'AZTECA' box service in collaboration with Hamburg Süd to link the west coasts of the United States, Central and South America.

The rotation connects the U.S. and Mexico, Guatemala, El Salvador, Nicaragua, Costa Rica and Colombia via the container terminals at Lazaro Cardenas, Mexico and Buenaventura, Colombia.

CMA CGM said the service would enable agriculture exporters in Central and South America faster access to North American markets as well as more efficient transit times to Pusan, Shanghai, Xiamen and Hong Kong.

Nicaragua, Guatemala and Costa Rica are major producers of bananas, pineapples, melons and shrimp while Chile exports grapes, avocados and wine.

The container line has also announced it will introduce a booking cancellation fee of US$150 per TEU from June 01 for all bookings cancelled or transferred seven calendar days or less prior to vessel cut-off date.

The company said the fee is due to last minute cancellations of booked shipments that have led to recent sailing shortfalls and will apply to services between North Europe and the Red Sea, Middle East, India, Pakistan and Sri Lanka.
