TEHRAN: May 30, 2017. PressTV, owned by Islamic Republic of Iran Broadcasting, reports a Swiss and Dutch company will design, develop and construct the first logistics center at Imam Khomeini International Airport (IKIA), Tehran.

PressTV said IKIA signed an agreement with Swiss-based ADI Consulting and the Netherlands Airport Consultant Company (NACO) in Tehran on May 27, citing airport vice president for Investment and Economic Affairs Hossein Tajik as its source.

Iran Air ATR"Logistics development actually means the country's development and is an essential element for this purpose," Tajik is quoted as saying.

In December 2015, IKIA awarded NACO an on-going contract to assist in the planning, development and implementation of the country's first airport city - Imam Khomeini Airport City. NACO said this would require the development of 13,700 hectares around the airport.

ADI Consulting founder Jean Godart said the new project is focused on logistics and is "a way to success" for Iran.

According to PressTV reports, the logistics deal follows the cancellation of an agreement with the French industrial group Bouygues to build and operate a second terminal at IKIA to handle 20 million passengers a year.

IKIA Airport City Company managing director Mahmoud Navidi said Bouygues "had failed to fulfill its commitments under the agreement".

"Currently, 50 domestic and foreign companies have announced readiness to invest in the Iranshahr terminal in the form of BLT (build, lease and transfer)," he added.
