SwissterminalFRENKENDORF, Switzerland: July 06, 2017. Container handling and logistics company Swissterminal has begun a new Swisstrain box service to the Port of Antwerp, adding to an existing rail link with Rotterdam.

The company has also partnered with Optimodal Nederland to provide import clearance services between Rotterdam and the Neuss Trimodal rail hub near Dusseldorf – switching from the inland rail hub at Duisburg, 30 minutes to the north.

Swissterminal said its Swisstrain service will continue to link the two sea ports from its rail terminal at Frenkendorf, near Basel three times a week and Rekingen, approximately two hours further east, twice a week.

Both the Rotterdam and Antwerp service is rail-only or a combination of rail and barge with three and two barge departures a week respectively.

Swissterminal president Roman Mayer said: "We are delighted that we are able to expand the service offering of our Swisstrain just shortly after its launch. The first Swisstrain carrying boxes with destination Rotterdam left our terminal in Frenkendorf in October last year. Since then we have noticed an increasing demand for transport solutions in the market.

"By adding Antwerp to our service portfolio, the change to Neuss Trimodal as a hub and Optimodal as import agency, we expand our market leadership as a provider of integrated and independent services for the transport and terminal services in Switzerland," he continued.
