ZURICH: August 15, 2017. The air cargo division of SWISS is to reduce its American organization from three to two regions effective October 01 covering Western, Southern USA & South America; and Northeast/Midwest USA and Canada.

At the same time it has appointed Hendrik Falk as regional manager Western, Southern USA & South America based in Atlanta. In this capacity Falk returns to the Lufthansa Group where he was Lufthansa Cargo regional director Sales for Singapore, Malaysia, Indonesia and Australasia from 1988-2002.

SWISSFalk has held other executive appointments in the air cargo industry including vice president North & South America for Air Bridge Cargo Airlines; vice president Cargo Sales for Global Aviation Holdings; and vice president Cargo EMEA and India for Polar Air Cargo.

The SWISS cargo region for Northeast/Midwest USA and Canada will continue to be led by Michael Ganz from New York. Ganz joined the American organization two years ago, after holding several commercial management positions at Swisscargo and Swiss WorldCargo in Zurich.

René Brechbuehl, who has had a 44-year career with Swissair and SWISS and for the past three has managed the Swiss WorldCargo South-East USA & South America region, will retire in October.

Also retiring from SWISS after 15 years of service is the last of its 21 Avro RJ100 aircraft that arrived at Zurich from Geneva on August 15 to a traditional water salute (right).

"Making this final landing at our home airport aboard an Avro was a very emotional experience for me. The taking out of service of the Avro aircraft marks the end of an era in the history of aviation in Switzerland," commented Avro fleet chief Michael Weisser.

SWISS said the Avro RJ100 and the smaller RJ85 have operated over half a million flights since the company was founded in 2002 and "remain in high demand despite their age".
