FRANKFURT: August 25, 2017. Almost 1,000 runners took part in the recent third annual 'Office City Run' to raise money for a pre-school in Nairobi, Kenya managed by Cargo Human Care (CHC), the non-profit founded 10 years ago by Lufthansa Cargo employees and German doctors.

Cargo Human Care  run 1The event was initiated by the Lufthansa Sports Club 'Cargo Bulls' division and raised €20,000 towards the construction of the new school for 100 children.

Founder and chairman of CHC, Lufthansa Cargo MD11 captain Fokko Doyen, said he was overwhelmed by the number of participants: "We can now definitely say that the City Office Run has established itself. That of course makes us very happy, as every cent that the runners and sponsors donate to Cargo Human Care today with their entry fees benefits children in Kenya."

Seeing off the group of runners over the five and 10-kilometer course, including 100 from Lufthansa Cargo, was company chairman and CEO Peter Gerber: "I'm very pleased to see the Office City Run now taking place for the third year in a row, as it underlines the outstanding and valuable commitment of so many Lufthansa staff."

The school is scheduled to open in mid-2018 with funding provided by CHC, the aid organization of the Lufthansa Group and its employees, and the Regine Sixt Children's Aid Foundation of the Sixt car rental company.

The Lufthansa Cargo executive board doubled the collected amount from the run with a donation matching the entry fees of the company's staff. Other employees of the Lufthansa Group, customers and service providers also provided running teams for the event held in the Frankfurt district of Niederaad, some eight kilometers from the airport.
