ACF 2020

abc envirotainer miaMOSCOW: December 13, 2017. DHL Global Forwarding (DGF) has tested the reliability of using the AirBridge Cargo Airlines (ABC) pharma logistics service with a shipment of dummy vaccines from Moscow via Chicago and Miami to Managua using an Envirotainer RKN container.

The airline said it plans to begin delivering live vaccines to Nicaragua in 2018.

For the trial shipment, DHL and ABC replaced real vaccines with water and used a Pharma active solution to maintain a set temperature between ±0 to +20°C throughout the multimodal delivery process that began on one of ABC's scheduled 747 freighter services to Chicago.

On arrival the ULD with 400kgs of test 'vaccine' was transshipped to a reefer truck for delivery to MIA where it was re-loaded on a flight to Managua.

Even though the RKN container can run on battery power for more than 90 hours, the company said it decided to maintain an additional temperature setting inside the truck as a safety measure.

"With ABC only developing temperature-sensitive solutions for less than a year, it is a huge achievement to be chosen to provide dedicated lift of healthcare products, which will improve the quality of life for people of the Republic of Nicaragua when we commence the delivery of vaccines in 2018," said Fedor Novikov, ABC's global director for Pharma.

ABC achieved IATA CEIV Pharma certification in 2016 and has Envirotainer QEP accreditation at its Moscow Sheremetyevo hub plus Dallas, Milan, Frankfurt, Amsterdam, Los Angeles and Chicago.
