DUBAI: February 06, 2018. Emirates SkyCargo has added Maastricht to its scheduled freighter network with an initial two B777 freighter flights a week from Dubai prior to beginning a daily service by the end of March.

EK Maastricht airportThe flights will supplement existing cargo capacity on EK freighter and passenger services to Amsterdam as well as providing connectivity to neighboring markets in Belgium and Germany.

"The Netherlands is one of our most important cargo markets globally and the freighters to Maastricht (right) will allow us to build a stronger presence to respond to customer needs in the region," explained Nabil Sultan, Emirates divisional senior vice president Cargo. Maastricht Aachen Airport managing director Jos Roeven added: "This win is a culmination of several months of hard and successful work by our team."

Last October in neighboring Luxembourg, Cargolux and Emirates SkyCargo signed a cargo codeshare agreement for passenger and freighter services. Since then they have been buying space on each other's flights for resale to their customers using their own airwaybills and flight numbers.

The airlines also use their partner's respective hub facilities in Dubai and Luxembourg that include extensive cool chain areas for temperature-sensitive cargo. Maastricht traffic is expected to include pharma, general and e-commerce cargo.

Cargolux says it increased perishables traffic 3.3 percent last year over 2016. "We are operating a modern fleet which has the state-of-art thermal capabilities and we do have a highly skilled team that knows and understands the importance of ensuring an unbroken cool chain," commented Stavros Evangelakakis, Cargolux product manager for fresh and temperature controlled commodities.

Emirates SkyCargo operates 15,000 square meters of cool chain facilities at Dubai World Central with dedicated storage space for temperature-sensitive traffic.
