Medway loco and trainSEVILLA: March 19, 2018. MSC Mediterranean Shipping Company is to launch a daily freight rail service between Sevilla, Spain and Sines, Portugal beginning April 04.

Operated by MSC subsidiary Medway, the service will carry 100 TEU between the inland maritime port of Puerto de Sevilla and the coastal hub at Sines.

MSC said its new rail service would provide better connectivity and improved transit times for exporters in southern and western Spain reach markets in the Americas and northern Europe as well as importers supplying Spanish markets.

Last month Medway began its first freight train operation on the Spanish national network with five roundtrip intermodal services between Madrid and Valencia each week.

With 38 wagons carrying 76 TEU, the first service arrived at the Fuente de San Luis terminal in Valencia after a seven -hour journey.

“This is the first route we have we have operated between two Spanish cities but it certainly will not be the only one,” said Medway president Carlos Vasconcelos. “We are sure that after this route, we will have new and more opportunities that will allow us to continue to strengthen our position in the Iberian market.“
