Rickenbacher EK freighterThe airline joins Cargolux, Cathay Pacific Cargo, Emirates SkyCargo (right) and Etihad Cargo in operating some 15 scheduled flights a week to LCK.

“With a view to continue expansion of our footprint in the USA, Columbus has been on the radar of our business interests for quite a while,” said Sergey Lazarev, ABC general director.

“Rickenbacker’s strengths, such as proximity to distribution centers of various companies, including the fashion and apparel industries; airport and ground handling infrastructure and facilities; and the existing network of partners in the Columbus Region, ensure we can provide our clients with reliable and efficient service,” he added.

The cargo-focused airport, which also includes service by FedEx and UPS, is within a one-day drive of nearly half the U.S. population.

“We’re excited Rickenbacker’s advantages have translated to success for our forward-thinking logistics partners, which in turn drives the success of the Columbus Region,” said Joseph Nardone, president & CEO of the Columbus Regional Airport Authority, which operates the airport. “Rickenbacker has grown phenomenally during the past five years, and the next five years look even more promising.”

In March LCK released plans to increase its cargo capacity tenfold over the next 20 years. In 2017 the airport handled 255 million pounds of freight – an increase of 27 percent over 2016 due to the growth in international shipments.
