Transmontanta Green CargoHALLSBERG, Sweden: May 03, 2018. Swedish state-owned rail company Green Cargo is to buy a further six Softronic Transmontana Co-Co locomotives from the Austrian LTE Group, following the purchase of two models in July 2017 due to arrive later this year.

The locomotives, with asynchronous traction motors, can pull about twice as much as conventional electric-powered equipment and will be delivered in the Autumn of 2019.

“The purchase of these locomotives will enable us to create even more efficient logistics solutions, particularly for heavy traffic plans,” said Green Cargo CEO Jan Kilström. “The locomotives not only increase capacity and safety, they also reduce freight costs for our company’s customers,” he added.

In addition to electric braking and some technical adjustments to suit a Nordic climate, Kilström said the increased traction power would result in a lower environmental impact since less energy would be used compared with running a higher number of lighter trains.

Green Cargo operates 400 freight trains each day, the equivalent to 10,000 trucks, and serves 270 locations in Sweden plus major Norwegian cities. In 2017, it produced annual revenue of SEK 4.3 billion.
