MIAMI: May 21, 2018. Miami International Airport was named Best Airport in North America at the 2018 Asian Freight, Logistics and Supply Chain Awards in Shanghai last week.

MIA awardThe awards recognize leading cargo logistics service providers including air and ocean carriers as well as ports and airports.

MIA was chosen from a group of four finalists that included Chicago O’Hare, Seattle-Tacoma and Vancouver.

“Congratulations to MIA for receiving more well-deserved recognition because of its world-class cargo operations,” said Miami-Dade County mayor Carlos Gimenez. “Miami-Dade County is incredibly fortunate to have America’s busiest international freight airport – and one of the world’s top 10 - within our community.”

In 2017 four airlines introduced new airfreight services to MIA: Etihad Cargo with a weekly 5th Freedom B777 freighter flight from Abu Dhabi via Amsterdam; TACA Peru launched four frequencies a week from five South American cities; Mexico-based Aeronaves TSM with 10 weekly flights from Cancun; and Qatar Airways introduced two flights a week from Doha via Luxembourg, Sao Paulo, Buenos Aires, Quito, and Liege. This year Southern Air began a weekly B777F service from Hong Kong via Anchorage and Skybus launched weekly cargo flights from Peru.
