WATERLOO, ON: June 25, 2018. Descartes Systems Group has acquired certain assets of Colorado-based Velocity Mail for US$25.5 million. The electronic transportation network provides global air carriers with mail and parcel shipment scanning and tracking solutions.

DSH HOVelocity Mail, a subsidiary of Accucode, has been connecting commercial airlines and their logistics partners with government postal authorities for more than 15 years. The company automates the entire shipment process from route generation to accounting reconciliation, simplifying operational processes for the air carriers, ground handlers and postal authorities.

“With more than 60 percent of cross-border e-commerce transactions shipped using postal providers, the growth of e-commerce has fuelled an increase in the market for Velocity Mail’s solutions,” said Ken Wood, EVP of Product Management at Descartes.

“Global air carriers need to have access to timely and reliable information about the movement of mail and parcel shipments to operate efficiently and meet postal authority service level agreements.," he added.

Wood said Velocity Mail’s network operates with similar fundamentals to the Descartes Global Logistics Network by helping parties connect and share information, while value-added business applications then leverage that information to increase efficiencies and improve decision-making.

Founded in 1995, Accucode designs, develops, and resells software solutions for mobile computing applications, automated data collection technologies, information technology, security, compliance and enterprise communications.
