HONG KONG: July 04, 2018. Kerry Logistics Network’s partner Globalink has signed an MoU with Georgia’s Anaklia City JSC to develop the Anaklia Deep Sea Port and Special Economic Zone (SEZ).

Anaklia Port MoUThe move follows the establishment last month of the first free trade agreement (FTA) in the Caucasus region between Hong Kong and Georgia. The FTA covers trade in goods and services, investments and a dispute settlement mechanism.

To be completed by 2020, the port upgrade and SEZ will be fully integrated with rail and road connections to other part of Georgia as well as neighbouring countries and is forecast to become one of the largest ports in the Black Sea region with a capacity to handle up to 10,000 TEU vessels and cater for a mix of cargoes.

Kerry Logistics managing director for China and North Asia Edwardo Erni said his company wants to make Anaklia Port a successful logistics hub for the region with integrated logistics, sea-rail, and sea-road services.

Anaklia is strategically located along the shortest trade route between China and Europe and can act as a cargo gateway to landlocked countries in Central Asia and the Caucasus.

“The successful development of Anaklia projects is expected to unlock a potential market of over 150 million consumers and serve as a bridge between Asia and Europe,” commented Anaklia City CEO Ketevan Bochorishvili .
