Boeing Farnborough 2018FARNBOROUGH, UK: July 16, 2018. DHL Express has ordered 14 B777 freighters plus seven options at a list price of approximately US$240 million per aircraft with delivery of the first four next year.

The company said the order is a “direct answer” to expanding cross-border e-commerce sales that are forecast to grow 19.2 percent per annum to reach US$4.48 trillion by 2021.

“The acquisition of the 14 Boeing airplanes reflects a gradual replacement of our older intercontinental fleet,” explained DHL Express CEO Ken Allen.

The 14 replacements are capacity neutral but result in “significant cost, efficiency and reliability benefits,” according to the company. Previously DHL has leased aircraft and this purchase is expected to improve the cost position of the division.

DHL is an early adopter of the aircraft having taken delivery of the third freighter produced by Boeing in 2009.
