ABC Giraffes 1ZHENGZHOU: August 06, 2018. Late last month AirBridgeCargo Airlines (ABC) shipped 66 baby giraffes from O. R. Tambo International Airport, Johannesburg to Zhengzhou via its Moscow Sheremetyevo airport hub.

Weighing some 38 tonnes in total, the animals were delivered to various parks in the Zhengzhou region on behalf of BSI Logistics (Tianjin).

The height of the main deck cargo door of a B747-8 freighter is 3.15 metres and as each giraffe measured up to three metres high, special stalls were used to carry three animals per unit and they were all looked after by specialists who also provided the in-flight catering.

“In the first half of 2018, we witnessed an 18 percent increase in the transportation of live animals, which reflects our reputation as a proven and reliable service provider for these specialist air cargo services,” commented ABC general director Sergey Lazarev.

Airfreight manager for BSI Logistics (Tianjin) Jasmine Chang added: “We're happy to see our lovely giraffes starting their new lives in China. Thankfully, they are all safe and healthy! We really appreciate ABC’s hard work, professional assistance and support.”
