PORT of MOBILE, AL: October 02, 2018. MTC Logistics (MTC), a cool chain warehouse specialist, is to invest US$60 million in the construction of a 12 million cu.ft. temperature-controlled distribution centre next to the Alabama State Port Authority (ASPA) container terminal, operated by APM Terminals.

Alabama container terminal APMPresident of MTC Brooks Royster said the new facility would include blast freezing, port drayage and LTL consolidation. “We have been in the temperature-controlled logistics business for 90 years and are thrilled Mobile will be a part of our future.

“ASPA’s vision to acquire the land was key to this transaction and if not for its unique location, it is unlikely this project would have come to fruition,” he continued. “Being able to find property immediately adjacent to a world-class port such as Mobile and in such close proximity to [Interstate] 10 is a very unique opportunity.”

MTC is a subsidiary of Hoffberger Holdings, an investment company owned by the Hoffberger family of Baltimore, Maryland. Once the new warehouse is complete, the company will operate four cool chain centres totaling 40 million cu.ft. at the ports of Mobile, Baltimore, Philadelphia, and Wilmington, Delaware.

“Our goal is to provide our customers with seamless supply chain solutions focused on global commerce,” added MTC vice president Sales Ernie Ferguson. “This strategic location on the US Gulf Coast will allow us to expand our service offering and we will have a significant focus on import cargo to help balance refrigerated container supply in Mobile.”
